Take Control Read-a-Thon ~ Oldest Book in Your TBR Pile Challenge
Go through your TBR pile and find the oldest book you haven’t read, and tell us why you bought it, why you haven’t read it, read the first chapter, tells us what you think or give a summary, share a quote.
I don’t think this is the oldest book in my TBR pile, but it certainly is one of the oldest—
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
Why I bought it: Someone recommended it to me, and when I saw it on sale at a book fair I couldn’t resist.
Why I haven’t read it: Because I’m an idiot and I’m scared of reading it after seeing the movie trailer. I have the feeling it does not end well.
First chapter thoughts: Well, apparently, Henry—the time traveller—does not remember Claire—the wife—but she remembers him and she knows everything about the time travelling deal. They go on a date. She also appears to like books and libraries. This is promising.
“Have we met? I’m sorry, I don’t . . . .” Henry is glancing around us, worrying that readers, coworkers are noticing us, searching his memory and realizing that some future self of his has met this radiantly happy girl standing in front of him. The last time I saw him he was sucking my toes in the Meadow.
